VIA should have made sure everyone with one of their afflicted boards knows about it and how to fix it, by issuing a big public announcement and making sure every hardware site under the sun has a section about the fix. I’m thinking of replacing the ABIT north bridge cooler as well the V5’s heatsinks if I successfully obtain one with one of these after-market northbridge coolers from eBay: It’s a bit scary the first time, but it’s really easy to do.
That means you only have 4 drive spots, but it most definitely will work. The problem surfaces most often with SBLive! But unfortunately VIA decided to cover up the problem, blame it entirely on Creative Labs, and be all hush-hush about the whole affair.

I was amazed that this serious issue wasn’t publicized more, so that people with these boards would know to flash their BIOSes and fix it. Then all is good! You can remove the hard drive trays for extra cooling. They’ve posted up pics of their cards so k7a can see what it looks like.

Cheers for the link to the patch! Thanks for suggesting to flash the bios. VIA stated to us that the mirror chip is the newest revision of the KTA, the ones without the mirror are earlier revision of the KTA chipset, so will this make a difference?
